Chris Killip Angelic Upstarts at a Miners’ Benefit Dance at the Barbary Coast Club, Sunderland, Wearside, 1984
W wariancie (pierwotnym?), jaki pojawił się na kompilacyjnej płycie Lost and Found (1991), w piosence słychać refren-aklamację: Dear God, Dear God, Dear God, let this
strike, cruel strike carry on, co przypomina trochę solidarnościowy song, wykonywany m.in. przez Macieja Pietrzyka, ze słowami: Boże Nasz, Boże Nasz, jak ten strajk, jak ten strajk, długo trwa. W wersji z singla z 1983 roku, w refrenie usłyszymy natomiast: Give
them hope, give them strength, give them live, like a
candle burning in the black of night. Reszta tekstu też się całkowicie rożni. Co ciekawe, w tej naszej "solidarnościowej" tradycji Angelic Upstarts są niezwykle słabo obecni...

Angelic Upstarts
SOLIDARITY (wariant z płyty Lost and Found)
we the
shipwrights and the dockers here we stand
and
behind us every worker hand in hand
we'll
get independent unions that are free from party minions
when
we'll win we'll built a free and happy land
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
though
they cling to depiction and want our crucifixion
we shall
stand every pain 'til we are done
all our
women and our children stand with us
and
we'll stand come tanks, starvation, tear gas
we'll
get independent unions that are free from party minions
nothing
will deter the polish working class
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
though
they cling to depiction and want our crucifixion
we shall
stand every pain 'til we are done
wired
camps, crooked courts, prison cells
swollen
faces, broken bones and bloody heads
we'll
get independent unions that are free from party minions
they can
kill us and we never, never be quell'd
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
we shall
stand every pain until we are done
though
they cling to depiction and want our crucifixion
those
who have and have not are apart
but
don't explain 'cause you would not know where to start
face
realities my brother only we can help each other
join
with us and we shall give you some heart
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
though
they cling to depiction and want our crucifixion
we shall
stand every pain 'til we are done
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
many of
those who were lucky to be free
will not
speak, will not hear, will not see
they
would help at (???) passion but are scared of repercussions
we'll
fight alone as long as it need be
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
though
they cling depiction and want our crucifixion
we shall
stand every pain 'til we are done
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
dear god, dear god, dear god,
let this
strike, cruel strike carry on
